JESSICA BELLOFATTO
Jessica Bellofatto has been practicing Yoga for 17 years, and teaching for the last 14 both in New York City and on the east end of Long Island. After completing the 500+ hr. year-long Jivamukti Yoga Teacher Training Certification led at the time by Sharon Gannon and David Life (creators of Jivamukti Yoga), Jessica went on to study intensively with such notable teachers as Genevieve Kapuler, Kevin Gardiner, Tim Miller, Richard Freeman, Angela Farmer and Victor Van Kooten, John Friend and Rodney Yee.
A former dancer, Jessica teaches from a deep understanding of movement as art, movement as play, movement as therapy, and especially, movement as a spiritual practice. She is also interested in the stillness within and between the movement; the spaciousness of silence.
KRIS CARR
Kris Carr is a Best-Selling Author, Filmmaker and Inspirational Speaker. She is the Director and subject of the award-winning documentary Crazy Sexy Cancer which premiered at the South By Southwest Film Festival and broadcast on TLC and Discovery Health. Her book Crazy Sexy Cancer Tips has been translated into six languages since its release last fall. Kris has been featured on The Today Show, Good Morning America, The CBS Evening News with Katie Couric, Access Hollywood and The Oprah Winfrey Show. She is a core member of The Urban Zen Foundation's Nutrition Committee, Donna Karan's philanthropic global wellbeing Initiative. Kris is also the Founder and Chief Visionary Officer of Crazy Sexy Wellness LLC.
JULIE CHERTOW - YOUNG LIVING OILS
A practitioner of Aromatherapy, licensed Massage Therapist, bodyworker and healer, Julie Chertow has been studying, using and teaching courses on essential oils for over 12 years. She began her massage therapy practice in 1983 after completing her studies at the Massage School of Santa Monica and spent several years serving the film and music industries in the Los Angeles, California area. In 1997, Julie joined Young Living and began training with Dr. D. Gary Young, the world's foremost authority on essential oils and Founder of Young Living Essential Oils in Utah. As an active Young Living distributor and educator, Julie teaches courses on essential oils throughout the United States. Julie also serves as the essential oil representative at the Ashland, Oregon Hospital for Planetree, an organization that is helping bridge the gap between Western medicine and complementary healing modalities.
TRACEY GRIFFITHS - YOUNG LIVING OILS
Tracy Griffiths is the co-owner, Program Director and senior instructor for Polarity Healing Arts of California (PHAC), "a school without walls," PHAC is an educational center that offers certified programs in life energy based healing modalities such as CranioSacral Unwinding, Polarity Therapy and Young Living Essential Oils training. Tracy developed and now teaches a unique, diversified body~mind~spirit curriculum to students and combines her wealth of knowledge in the healing arts with a passionate enthusiasm for life.
DONNA KARAN
"Everything I do is a matter of mind, body and spirit," says Donna Karan, founder and chief designer of the international company that bears her name. "For me, designing is an expression of who I am as a woman, with all the complications, feelings and emotions... the fact that I am a woman, makes me want to nurture others, fulfill needs and solve problems."
In 2006, Donna founded the Urban Zen Initiative to play an active role that raises awareness and inspires change by promoting well-being, preservation of culture and empowering children through forums and special events. Through its partnerships with foundations, corporate sponsors and private donors, it serves as a catalyst for collaboration which co-develops pilot projects for its three programs. The Urban Zen Initiative will endeavor to raise funds for existing charitable organizations. It envisions a world where people embrace the vital connection between mind, body, and spirit in order to live healthier lives.
SHANA KUHN-SIEGEL
Shana Kuhn-Siegel has been practicing yoga for more than 10 years. She received her first certification in 2003 at Yoga Shanti in Sag Harbor, NY. Shana's classes are mindful and playful, combining focused and integrated asana sequencing, philosophy and chanting. Shana's commitments to the moral precepts of satya and ahimsa led her to complete a Masters in Social Work from NYU in 2007. Aside from teaching in the classroom, Shana currently works at Beth Israel Hospital, combining her passions for yoga and social work, as the Yoga Coordinator of The Urban Zen Pilot Study.
DR JAMIE NAUGHRIGHT
Dr. Naughright is a certified athletic trainer with 18 years of experience evaluating, treating, and preventing sports injuries with Division I Intercollegiate & professional athletes. She earned a 1996 Doctor of Education degree in Health Education & Promotion and an undergraduate degree in Exercise Physiology. Dr. Naughright was a university professor for 10 years in the areas of sports medicine and anatomy. She was the medical director and member of medical staff for USA Track & Field including 1996 Olympic Games, NCAA Championships and World Games.
She assists Rodney Yee and Colleen Saidman Yee with the Urban Zen Initiative Yoga Program and is the Director of Integrative Therapist Program for Urban Zen founded by Donna Karan.
Ed Dailey
Ed Dailey is an independent yoga teacher who is aligned with the teachings of BKS IYengar and Rodney Yee. Ed is know for his inspirational and eclectic style of teaching. Ed has played an active role in the implementation of the yoga pilot study at Beth Israel Medical Center in NYC. He continues to teach yoga and work in the operating room in Connecticut and Manhattan.
JILL PETTIJOHN
Born and raised in New Zealand, Jill Pettijohn is a Registered Nurse, Preston Institute and La Trobe University. She has worked as a Professional Chef for over 20 years.
Her deep understanding of nutrition and health inspired Jill to create a Nutritional Cleanse Program (serving clients throughout NYC and Brooklyn) to help people get back into a better state of health. She also owns Jill's Café in Brooklyn serving raw and kindly cooked foods.
Jill's approach to food preparation and philosophy of working with fresh and organic foods puts her in a rare category. Gone are the more traditional thoughts and relationship with food to be replaced with a more nurturing and healing relationship with what one puts into their bodies. "I use food more as medicine, most of the food I prepare is termed living food. Feeling the benefits of better health both physically and emotionally, is what I want for everyone."
ROBERT THURMAN - AUTHOR, PROFESSOR, BUDDHIST
Robert Thurman is a Professor of Indo-Tibetan Buddhist Studies at Columbia University, President of the Tibet House and President of the American Institute of Buddhist Studies. The New York Times recently said Thurman "is considered the leading American expert on Tibetan Buddhism." Thurman's work and insights are grounded in more than 35 years of serious academic scholarship. He has a B.A., A.M. and Ph.D. degrees from Harvard and has studied in Tibetan Buddhist monasteries in India and the United States. In 1962, Thurman became the first American ordained as a Tibetan Buddhist monk. Thurman's unique take on the relevance of Buddhism to American culture and politics, and his wit and creativity in weaving ancient Buddhist wisdom and popular Western ideals, that make his knowledge entertaining and useful as well as informative.
MARIANNE WILLIAMSON - NEW SPIRITUALITY AUTHOR
Marianne Williamson is an internationally acclaimed author and lecturer. She has published ten books, five of which -- including her newest The Age of Miracles: Embracing the New Midlife -- have been New York Times Bestsellers. COLLEEN SAIDMAN YEE
Colleen Saidman has had a dedicated yoga practice for over 20 years, has been teaching for 12, and co-owns and codirects Yoga Shanti in Sag Harbor, New York. Colleen continues her studies with her husband, Rodney Yee. Her passion for working in health care started in junior high at a geriatric center and continues today as a cochair of the Urban Zen Health and Wellness Initiative.
RODNEY YEE
Rodney Yee, who has been practicing yoga for 27 years and teaching for 23, got his foundation from Iyengar Yoga. He continues his studies together with his wife, Colleen Saidman. Thirty DVDs and two books later, he has turned his yoga passion towards health care by co-chairing the Urban Zen Health and Wellness Foundation, founded by Donna Karan.
